Obelisk of Glory - stele in Togliatti, in Freedom Square, in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

History
According to the plan of building Stavropol (formerly known as the city of Togliatti) after transfer of the city from the zone of flooding in the downtown area had to be Pushkin and Pushkin Boulevard. But in April 1957 suggested that young builders to erect a monument in the center area of "freedom fighters", and at his own expense. 30 thousand rubles collected collecting waste paper, scrap metal, etc.
In a declared monument design contest won the main architect of Mikhail Sorokin. He was awarded the trip to VI International Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow.
Monument to the classical form given in the form of a four steles. At each of its faces reliefs depicting the freedom fighters (residents):

    * Heroes of the Great Patriotic War:
          o pilot Viktor Nosov,
          o infantryman Vasili Zhilin
          o sailor Eugene Nikonov;

    * As well as the first chairman of executive committee Vasily Banykina, who was killed in 1919
October 26, 1958 grand opening of the monument. From that day on Freedom Square was the central area of the city.
On November 7, 1958 city celebrations and demonstrations were held exactly on it. By the name of the monument "freedom fighters" were called and the area and the adjacent parkway was the Youth.

Reconstruction
In preparation for the celebration of 30 anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War in April 1975 the obelisk was restored and altered.
Were removed four stone ball on the edges and decorative chain on the perimeter, also replaced the medallions with profiles of heroes. Togliatti sculptors Pronyushkin AN Kolesnikov, and NI performed reliefs heroes in bronze. The monument was faced with granite.Eternal flame at the obelisk

November 3, 1978 at the monument lit an eternal flame, was delivered to the armored personnel carrier from the obelisk of Fame Samara. Gradually, the monument became known as "Obelisk of Glory".
In 2006, the former mayor of Tolyatti, Nikolai Utkin expressed his intention to restore the monument.
